Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. I am sure you have heard this phrase many times. But let’s be honest here, how many of us make an effort to make this meal of the day count as a healthy meal? Let’s admit for most of us (including me) waking up early is a challenge in itself. We want to sleep until the last time and keep on pressing the snooze button as often as we can. So how the hell is it possible to sit down and have a healthy breakfast? Grabbing a croissant and a cup of coffee from the nearby bakery or coffee shop sounds more enticing than waking up half an hour early to prepare breakfast. I am sure you got the point 😉
Yet eating croissant every day or some unhealthy breakfast is both detrimental to our health and to our pocket! So why not make some effort the evening before so that we can spare all that drama the next morning.
In this post, I am going to share with you my grab-and-go breakfast which will help you stay on track with your fitness goals! Overnight oatmeal is one of my favorite breakfast and ever since I tried these I never turned to warm oatmeal. The reason why they are so delicious is that they taste like a desert, so creamy, sweet and full of flavors and a plus point- they are healthy so you don’t have to feel guilty at all!
I prefer making my oatmeal in a jar that has a secure lid so that when I am running like crazy in the morning to make in time, I don’t spill them and make my bag a mess. Obviously, that goes without saying but I just wanted to share the kind of a mess I am with you guys 🙂 Maybe someone out there can relate 😉
This is a basic recipe, you can go all wild and creative with this one. Adapt it according to the seasonal fruits, a season of the year like having a festive oatmeal with apples, banana, and cinnamon during winters. Whereas a tropical one with exotic fruits during summer. My all-time favorite is banana and berries oatmeal. Banana adds creaminess and sweetness and berries balance the sweetness with
- 3 tbsp oats
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
- 1tbsp honey
- 1 tbsp peanut butter
- 3tbsp greek yogurt
- 1/2 cup milk of your choice
- fruits of your choice
- for toppings and extra crunch- walnuts, sliced almonds, coconut shavings
- Mix all the ingredients except fruits and toppings in a jar.
- Top it with your favorite fruits and nuts. Keep overnight in the fridge.
Tip: You do not necessarily have to chill your oatmeal overnight. A maximum of four hours is also fine to allow your oats to reach a creamy consistency.
