Citrus Mocktail (Non-alcoholic)

Citrus mocktail is a refreshing drink to cool you down in the hot and scorching summers. It is sweet with a citrusy zing and a dash of freshness from the addition of mint. I always crave for a cold citrusy drink in the summer afternoons and this mocktail fits the bill nicely. Grab a glass and whip up this drink in a jiffy!

Citrus Mocktail

Summers in India were always synonymous with mangoes, vacations, and plenty of cold drinks. Mom would religiously make a bottle of Rasna orange squash or lemon (Nimbu Paani) squash when the first days of summer hit us. Sometimes, I would take the squash in my water bottle to school. I loved the citrusy summer drinks and looked forward to summers when they would surely find their presence at home. It was almost a daily ritual to partake in some form of fruit juice on hot afternoons.

These days I simply prefer water on a hot summer day but would love to indulge in these refreshing treats every once in a while. Being an Indian I love tropical and citrus flavors when it comes to my drinks. This Citrus Mocktail hits the spot every time I crave a non-alcoholic drink. It’s also perfect if you’re hosting a summer party or have friends over. It’s very quick to prepare and you can customize it to make it healthier. I’ve given tips on all the possible variations and swaps.

Lemonade

You can use a store-bought lemonade or prepare it at home. I used store-bought lemonade.

Orange soda

Fanta, Sunkist, and Miranda are some of the options. You have to use an orange soda from any brand. If you want to make it healthier, swap it with orange juice.

Mint leaves

Use fresh mint leaves. It’s the secret ingredient that takes your drink from ‘Meh!’ to ‘Whoa!’.

Lemon Slices

Slice a couple of Lemon Wedges for muddling them and intensifying the citrusy zing.

Ice Cubes

You can use crushed or whole ice to cool your drink. Feel free to freeze some lemon juice and use that instead of ice.

Step-by-Step Method – Citrus Cocktail

In a glass, add a lemon slice and mint leaves.

Muddle it using a muddler or a pestle or the back of a wooden spoon. If you’re using a pestle, be gentle. Otherwise, you might end up breaking the glass.

Top it with some ice cubes.
